Children of Cambodia

I have just spent a few days in Siem Reap, Cambodia, and was shocked by the contrast that exists there between the local living conditions and the excessive tourist traps. Angkor Wat was obviously enchanting, but what impacted me more was a visit to the Angkor Children's Hospital, which was established thanks to the compassion of a Japanese photographer and the generosity of foreign aid. It seems odd to me that while the Cambodian government has the resources to build large military monuments and restore religious relics, it does not appear to be able to provide basic shelter for its citizens or afford its children essential medical care.
